I am a freelance professional with 20 years of experience in the IT and Telecommunications within companies like: Liberty Global, KPN, NUON, ProRail, BBned and Alcatel. I have been active within the innovation and operational work field. I have been lucky to have a lot of very interesting jobs starting as an engineer, moving on to several line management and project/program management roles and lately supporting organizations with knowledge as a technical manager, system integration architect and product owner big data and machine learning.

Scum Master & Product Owner In Home Connectivity Big Data & Machine Learning

Within the technology organisation I supported the In Home Connectivity Telemetry team to set up the development team and manage the scope and planning of the work. The team is working on all kind of In Home related technical (telemetry) data like HFC network, modem and wifi metrics ingestions into our big data cluster called One Data Hub. It's a big data solution based on the ELK stack, Hadoop, Clickhouse, Casandra, Graphite and more. After data is ingested using different methods like python scripts and spark jobs it is used to do correlations to other data sets and building dashboards in Kibana/Grafana for the business to use.
Next to this I supported the work on different machine learning algorithms (supervised, unsupervised) to further analyse the data and start predicting customer impact based on the technical metrics using Python.

Tasks were but not limited to:

  • Implemented Agile way of working using Scrum,
  • Set up the Jira project to manage our sprints,
  • Alignment with the business about scope and planning,
  • Defining the EPICs and user stories for data analytics, dashboards and machine learning,
  • Alignment on processes within the organisation/department,

Defining and implementing an application landscape in the service assurance framework to support the operational teams with Network Inventory, Alarm correlation & root cause analysis and automation of diagnostics and auto ticket generation.

Responsible as the technical lead within the program to define the operational solution for all the applications (high level design / low level design) and design and test the use cases to be implemented in this solution.

Business Analyst

As a Business Analyst responsible for the translation of the customer business demand to a solution using the ServiceHighway (interactive workflow management system for automation of working processes). Using workshops and interviews, I defined the requirements and created the functional designs of the use cases. I performed impact analyses and supported the development during the build of the solutions. Acting as a single point of contact for the customers I made sure the solutions fitted into their demands.

Project Manager Customer Base Migration

Responsible within this assignment to define the broadband customer migration from the old to the new OSS/BSS systems. At first I was responsible to implement new single and dual play customer services within the new OSS/BSS Systems. After this I analysed the customer base and defined an overview of the missing customer life cycle processes in the new OSS/BSS systems. I advised the customer how to enhance the new provisioning systems to support the full customer life cycle processes. Migration of the customer base was at time not possible.

KPN-ITNS (Jun 2013 - Mar 2014)

Technical Project Manager 

As a project manager responsible for two carve-out projects. First project consisted of the carve-out of the full KPN-ITNS server infrastructure from the Reggefiber data centres. Management of a technical team, define application/system migration strategies and coordination of the migrations.

The scope of the second project was the carve-out of the Network Operating Centre from the premises of Reggefiber. Analysis of options and advice to the management team for best option. Together with HRM define the overall plans for personnel, support the recruitment of new personnel and coordination of the activities necessary to get the new NOC operational at a new location.

KPN-ITNS (Mar 2012 - Mar 2014)

Manager Technical Support Team a.i.

As interim manager responsible for the Technical Support team. KPN-ITNS was a by KPN owned self supporting orgnisation which was a merge of Reggefiber Wholesale, ISPFabriek and Glashard Media. This team needed to be build up and professionalized. The team was responsible for application- and server management, office automation and 2nd line support for IP network, CATV, DVB-C & IPTV.

KPN ITNS (Sep 2011 - Mar 2013)

IT Manager a.i.

ISPFabriek (wholesale glassfiber provider) was a real start-up organisation. This gave a heavy pressure on the IT department. To be able to handle this the team needed to be extended and professionalized. Clear definition of roles and responsibilities, work with releases and keeping track of the work load using JIRA. Next to this the rest of the organization needed to be helped in working with IT. Business in the lead so the IT team could be facilitating instead of defining. The team was also responsible for office automation, application support and server management.  

Nuon (May 2010 - Jul 2011)

As a cluster manager within the ICT integration program NUON - Vattenfall responsible for all network related projects. Management of three project managers. The scope was connections to other countries, harmonize the IP addresses, implementation of a security scanner, WLAN, VPN, RAS, Proxy, videoconferencing service and application migrations

Responsible within the IT department of NUON for the following projects. Within the Alliander – Nuon carve-out program responsible for the migration of the call centre environment to the new data centres. A project for the implementation of the ICT infrastructure of a new office building and a project for the in sourcing of the NUON telemetric environment from Alliander.

As a project manager within the program Mistral (large scale replacement of the train security system) responsible for initializing the replacement projects (assignment, financials and project plans), stakeholder management, definition of requirements, define and implement support processes and RAM- and safety management.

BBned (Sep 2007 - Dec 2008)

Programme manager Alice

This international program consisted of a fast implementation of an ADSL consumer ISP named Alice (international brand of Telecom Italia) in the Netherlands. Responsible for the definition of the operational processes, development of the OSS/BSS systems and set-up and management of the operational organization (call centre, service desk and provisioning team).

BBned (Aug 2006 - Aug 2007)

Programme manager FTTH & VDSL

Responsible for strategic business analysis, network and process design, field trial and negotiations with KPN about the access in the street cabinets under supervision of ACM (formal OPTA).

Within this program two glass fibre networks where implemented, Amsterdam (Citynet) and Rotterdam (Nesselande & Lloyd kwartier). Responsible for the design and deployment of the technical network, definition and implementation of the operational processes, OSS/BSS development and the implementation of the services (IP, VoIP and CATV) within the line organization.

As Manager Operations Wholesale member of the business unit Wholesale Management Team and responsible for the provisioning of services, maintenance, deployment and design of the technical infrastructure (Core, DSL, Fibre). Professionalize the organization and management team, improve performance and coaching of the management team (five departments, 120 employees).

Manager Service Implementation

This team was responsible for new service development like VoIP/VoDSL or FTTH. Scope: Design, built, test and operational readiness of the line organization.

Manager OSS/BSS Development

Responsible for the development of the OSS/BSS environment which was done by an outsource company. Set-up a team to insource back certain activities. 

Interim manager Provisioning

Stepped in as an interim manager for this department to get it back on track. Due to heavy work load and inefficient processes the work could not be done. Reorganized the team, motivated the people and introduced KPI's and clear work processes.
